After completing a 2019 site study, Johnson City Schools selected TWA to design a new elementary school to serve 800 students on the existing Towne Acres campus. The new facility, which is a full-service replacement school, will be constructed on the southeast corner of the site while the existing school remains operational. In the historic neighborhood, considerations had to be made for access to reduce neighborhood impact and maintain as much of the surrounding campus including vegetation and walkability as possible. The new design updates classrooms and amenities, allows for increased enrollment, enlarges athletics capacity, adds pre-kindergarten programming, and expands other necessary support infrastructure like parking and play areas. Construction should finish by the start of the 2027 fall semester and will continue Towne Acres Elementary's reputation as a top-performing school in the region.
